About Dr. Mathis
Dr. Jessica Mathis can remember wanting to be a
veterinarian as far back as fourth grade. A love for and
fascination with animals drove her to achieve her dream.
Dr. Mathis grew up in Northern Virginia and attended
Virginia Tech for both her B.S. in animal science and her
D.V.M.
Upon graduation, Dr. Mathis and her husband, Jeff (also a
Hokie), moved to North Carolina. Dr. Mathis worked for
two different small animal practices in the Greensboro
area for 5 years. When her husband had a job offer in
Palatka, it was time to move to Florida!
This move, along with the birth of their second daughter,
prompted Dr. Mathis to explore more flexible job
opportunities as a veterinarian. She and her husband
came up with the idea of At Home Veterinary Care to
allow Dr. Mathis to spend time at home with her girls but
still practice veterinary medicine.

Dr. Mathis lives in Green Cove Springs with her
husband, three daughters (Jenna, 7, Julianna, 4, and
Jordan, 2 ), two crazy cats, Izzy and Skywalker, and
her daughter's two guinea pigs, Gus and Jaq (after the
mice from Cinderella). She enjoys scrapbooking and
trips to the beach when she isn't busy being a part-time
vet and full-time mom.
